The body is amazing; we are made up of so many moving parts that work together to help us move, think and achieve what we want. That being said, when we are injured, it can be so hard to do what we want to do. Tendinitis (also called tendonitis) is a fairly common ailment that many people are affected by and that we want to help you learn more about.

What Is Tendinitis?

Tendinitis, put simply, is an inflammation of the tendons. Tendinitis can affect any tendon in the body, of which there are many. It can be very painful, make moving and getting around difficult, and make it hard to really do anything.

The most common cause of tendonitis is repetitive motion. This could be a movement that you do at work, like moving items on or off of an assembly line, it could be the repetition of an exercise or any other motion that requires the muscle to do the same motion over and over. This does not mean that doing one motion will cause tendinitis every time, but it does increase the risk.

How Do I Know if I Have Tendonitis?

The main sign that you have tendinitis is pain or soreness in the muscle. You might notice that it is very tender to the touch, that your range of motion in that area is very limited, and you might also notice that the area is warm to the touch.

You may also notice that you have had some sort of injury and that it seems that it is not healing. This might be a sign that you have tendinitis and need to seek some tendinitis treatments. Some common treatments include things like icing the area, keeping it elevated, keeping off of the injury or immobilizing the area, etc.

Generally, tendinitis will resolve itself and will get better without any medical intervention on your part. In some cases, you may need to seek medical help. If you do need additional help, it is likely that you have more than just a simple case of tendinitis and that you may have actual tears in the muscle or the tendon that have to be repaired surgically.

It is always best to get the opinion of a medical professional. They can help you figure out if you have an injury and if you need further medical intervention to get better.
